SMPTESwitch Live
The crew app for SMPTESwitch, the Mac app that runs timecode-driven camera cuts on a Blackmagic ATEM. Shot lists, tally, timecode and Show Stop calls on every crew phone.
What the app does
SMPTESwitch Live connects to SMPTESwitch on your Mac and gives each crew member the view their role needs during the show.
Camera operators
See your shot list and shot notes, plus tally for your camera: black on standby, green in preview, red when you're live.
Lighting, Audio, SFX / Pyro
See the running timecode, the current song and the next song. Request a Show Stop if something is unsafe.
Stage Manager
Approve or decline Show Stop requests from the crew, and call or clear a Show Stop.
Connect to the Mac
Your phone and the Mac running SMPTESwitch need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- On the Mac
Open SMPTESwitch, go to the Remote tab and turn on Let crew phones connect.
- On your iPhone
Join the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac, then open SMPTESwitch Live. The Mac should appear in the app automatically.
- Pick who you are
Enter your name, choose your role and, for camera operators, your camera.
Mac not showing up? Connect by address instead. In the app's Settings, type the Mac's IP address and port, for example 192.168.1.20:9101.
FAQ
My phone can't find the Mac
- Check the phone and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some venue Wi-Fi block devices from seeing each other.
- Check Let crew phones connect is turned on in the Mac app's Remote tab.
- On the iPhone, make sure SMPTESwitch Live is allowed Local Network access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
- Still nothing? Type the Mac's address into the app's Settings, for example
192.168.1.20:9101.
What does the "Lost the Mac" warning mean?
The app has lost its connection to SMPTESwitch. Your tally, timecode and song info may be out of date until it reconnects, so don't rely on them while the warning is showing.
Common causes are the phone dropping off Wi-Fi, walking out of range, or the Mac app being closed or asleep. The app reconnects on its own once the Mac is reachable again.
Who can clear a Show Stop?
Only the Stage Manager. Lighting, Audio and SFX / Pyro can request a Show Stop; the Stage Manager approves or declines the request, and is the only role that can call or clear a Show Stop.
Does the app need internet access?
No. It only talks to SMPTESwitch on your local network. It works on a closed show network with no internet connection.
Why does the app send my battery level?
So the operator at the Mac can see whose phone is running low before the show. It goes to that Mac only.

Privacy Policy
The short version
SMPTESwitch Live collects no personal data. It has no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. It only talks to SMPTESwitch running on a Mac on your local network.
What the app sends, and where
To work during a show, the app sends a small amount of information to the SMPTESwitch Mac you connect it to, and to nowhere else:
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| The name you choose | So the crew and the Mac operator know who is connected |
| Your role | To show you the right screen and permissions |
| Your camera | To show your shot list and tally |
| Battery level | So the operator can see phones running low |
This information travels over your local network only. It is never sent to HAZE Productions or to any third party, and HAZE Productions has no servers that receive it.
What we don't do
- We don't collect, store or sell personal data.
- We don't use analytics, crash-reporting or advertising services.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
Local network access
iOS will ask permission for SMPTESwitch Live to find devices on your local network. This is only used to find and connect to SMPTESwitch on your Mac.
Children
The app is a professional production tool and is not directed at children.
